Drake London (USC) 6’4” 219LBS
2020 All PAC-12 Second Team
2021 All PAC-12 First Team
2021 PAC-12 Offensive Player of the Year
Traits:
Physicality
Hands
Big Play Ability
Drake London is easily the biggest vertical threat amongst all of the WR’s in this Draft class. It truly was a shame he didn’t get to finish off this past college season because he was on a tear with 88 receptions and 1,084 receiving yards before his season ending injury. Even though his season was cut short he still took home the PAC-12 OPOTY Award for the 2021 season. He’s a physical receiver who knows how to utilize his 6’4” frame to his advantage boxing out opposing cornerbacks and winning a majority of his 50/50 toss ups. He’s a reliable WR who caught a majority of his passes and can supply a big play at any given moment. He’s an ideal starting outside receiver in the NFL, but he can create a big play from the slot or outside as we saw on his college tape. He’s my WR1 and could be the first WR off the board during the draft.
Garrett Wilson (Ohio State) 6’0” 183LBS
2020 All Big Ten First Team
2021 All Big Ten Second Team
Traits:
Acceleration
YAC
Route Technician
Garrett Wilson is the best route runner in his class and put on a clinic of crisp routes throughout his time at Ohio State. He’s been able to showcase short and long routes in his film, and performs them all to a T. Highly regarded for his extra time in the lab and film room, Wilson is a true football player and wants to reach an elite pinnacle. He’s not regarded for his separation during his routes but has a lot of acceleration in his legs to create distance between him and opposing cornerbacks. Wilson really earns his money gaining tons of yardage after the catch turning a lot of them into scores. With more time in the lab there’s no telling how good Wilson will be, but what is for certain is that whatever teams drafts Wilson is getting an absolute workhorse.
Jameson Williams (Alabama) 6’1” 180LBS
2021 All-SEC First Team
2021 Special Teams Player of the Year (Co Award Winner)
2021 All-American First Team
Traits:
Ball Skills
Shifty
Big Play Ability
Jameson Williams burst onto the scene in 2021 after being in the backseat of an overloaded Ohio State WR Room. Once he transferred over to Alabama Williams was an absolute star from the first snap with the Roll Tide. He’s got excellent separation skills to get away from opposing cornerbacks allowing him to track the football in the air to make a play for his offense. Highly regarded for his yards after catch, he’s extremely hard for defenders to bring down after a possession because of how shifty he can be in open space. He’s got a high IQ in traffic allowing him to find a path to more yards or a touchdown. Williams can create a big play vertically or maneuvering through defenses making him a very sought after pick. Now I know teams may be a bit scared because of the injury he sustained, but he seemed to rehab safely so it should not be too alarming to teams come draft time.
David Bell (Purdue) 6’1” 212LBS
2019 Big Ten Freshman of the Year
2019 All Big Ten Second Team
2020 All Big Ten First Team
2021 All Big Ten First Team
2021 All-American First Team
2021 Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year Award
Traits:
Hands
Motor
Route Technician
David Bell is another route technician in this loaded WR draft class. Bell had a heavy workload on the Purdue offense this past season and didn’t shy away from the touches whatsoever, showcasing a terrific motor in his game. His routes are where coaches are going to fall in love with Bell as his game film has an array of different routes short, medium, and deep where he can lose a cornerback. He can win 50/50 balls while also making catches in traffic thanks to his ability to adjust to the ball and make the catch. His film features a few highlights that make you wonder how Bell even made the catch but only he could tell you. Bell isn’t a speed demon on the field, but with his elite footwork and reliable hands he has got one of the highest ceilings in this draft and I think on the right team he can flourish immediately.
Chris Olave (Ohio State) 6’1” 188LBS
2019 All Big Ten Third Team
2020 All Big Ten First Team
2021 All Big Ten First Team
Traits:
High IQ
Speed
Silent Assassin
Chris Olave gave College Football two incredible seasons in 2020 and 2021, and while some including myself felt he should have tested the draft waters last season he secured himself a first round selection coming back to Ohio State for another year. He’s a highly intelligent player who reads the football field with ease finding his way around the defense and into the end zone. His speed off the line and after the catch causes problems for opposing cornerbacks which should translate over to the NFL smoothly. Olave is regarded as a route technician which can definitely be true, however I think a true testament to his game is he just shows up, puts the work in, and comes back the next week for more. He’s not a flashy WR however he makes big plays like the best of them and did it continuously week in and week out. Olave like his Ohio St. counterpart in this Top 5 will slide into the NFL perfectly fine and whoever ends up with Olave is getting a Silent Assassin at wide receiver.
